SKI TOURING ROUTE: Alpendorf - Buchau-Hütte
- Distance: 3,6 km
- Time: 1,5 Stunden
- Difficulty: moderate
- Destination: Buchau-Hütte
The tour begins in St. Johann-Alpendorf close to Restaurant Butz & Stingl to the left of the piste operated by the Alpendorf lifts in Snow Space Salzburg, where you will follow the marked ski route leading to Alpengasthof Sternhof and the Kreistenalm. Use CAUTION when crossing the ski slope! Do so one-by-one, maintaining a safe distance – this is a busy slope used by lots of skiers.
Behind the small hut, you will continue along the marked ski touring route through a spruce forest blanketed deep in snow, underneath the gondola line, to the Obergassalm, where you will be treated to a great view of the Hohe Tauern mountains including the Grossglockner, extending all the way to Oberpinzgau and your destination for today’s tour, the Buchau-Hütte.
From there, the route continues to the Hubertus Chapel at 1740 m above sea level, a great place to take a break and enjoy the views of the Hochkönig, the Tennen- and Hagengebirge, and on a clear day, all the way to the Gaisberg on the far side of Salzburg City. After crossing the piste, you will definitely want to make a beeline for some food & drink at the very popular Buchau-Hütte.
After a great run down the beautifully groomed pistes of Snow Space Salzburg back to Alpendorf, your scenic ski tour will come to an end.
